FACING YOUR FEAR (FYF)

This research project investigates the effectiveness of an anxiety intervention called Facing Your Fears (FYF), which is a group Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach for the treatment of anxiety in children and youth with ASD that has been adapted to meet the cognitive, linguistic, and social needs of this population.

Parent attendance is required at all sessions.

PARTICIPATION IN THE STUDY INCLUDES:

  1. A short pre-screening interview over the phone

  2. A 2-3 hour in-person assessment

  3. Participation in FYF (14 weekly sessions)

  4. Completion of questionnaires and other assessment measures 6 months following the completion of the program.

Participation in our FYF program is currently for youth 8 years to 14 years old. If you are interested in the program, but are younger than age 8, they may be placed on a waitlist until they reach the age requirement.

The FYF program typically has limited space and is usually offered twice a year.


This study is in collaboration with health practitioners from Alberta Health Services (AHS) and with community organizations such as the Society for treatment of Autism (STA). It is funded by the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.
